Family and Advocates Mission

The Families and Advocates Transforming Education (FATE)  team is a group of family members and individuals who have lived experiences of disability in public schools.

We are part of the Special Education Support Center and the WEA Inclusionary Practices Technical Assistance Network. These teams provide continuing education classes for educators.

FATE’s mission is to represent and include disabled voices and their families and improve collaboration skills for teams. To do so, we would like to record your video stories to use within our classes.

Seeing examples and hearing personal stories helps others understand what families and students feel and what works.  By recording our many experiences, we can put faces to what it’s like to navigate through special education systems.  Creating a library of videos will help us teach others the importance of inclusion and collaboration.

Our instructors will use the videos of your stories to create a reflective, positive learning opportunity for educators.

We have learned that when we share our stories, it impacts education!

Our team is committed to:

  • Collaboration, partnership, and support to educators and families
  • Representation of disabled voices and their families
  • Advocacy in educational communities
  • Practical, grounded ideas and strategies from disabled perspectives

Join us in making a difference by sharing your stories. Thank you!
